In her songs, Aspen tackles issues such as relationships, religion, mental health, and social constructs with insightfulness well beyond her years. “I don’t like to preach my own beliefs, but rather ignite thought and reflection about things that are important to me. I hope my music can help spark dialogs that lead to change and making the world a better place.”

Last summer Aspen recorded "Monday Mourning" in Nashville at OMNISound with producer Dominic Davis, Larissa Maestro on cello and Aspen on guitar and vocals. When Aspen made the plan to release it in June for Gun Violence awareness month, she didn't realize at the time that we would be experiencing a rash of shootings.
Aspen Jacobsentag:aspenjacobsen.com,2005:Post/70826962022-05-11T08:00:00-04:002022-10-17T00:46:49-04:00The Cello Sherpa Interview
Have you ever listened to the podcast The Cello Sherpa? This song was inspired by Aspen's brother who struggles with Autism and depression. Disturbed by her brother's struggles, Aspen wrote this song in the bathroom one night as her roommates slept. She played it at her school's open mic the next day and left the room heavy with emotion.

Last summer she recorded "Dear Brother" in Nashville at OMNISound with Dominic Davis as Producer, Larissa Maestro on cello and Aspen on guitar and vocals. "I think it is one of the fastest songs I've written where I immediately felt it was complete," Aspen explains. "When I was done, I had a sense of calm. The song is therapeutic, raw and heartfelt." Aspen hopes this song is relatable and comforting for those who have a loved one struggling with autism, depression, or other challenges.
Aspen Jacobsentag:aspenjacobsen.com,2005:Post/70826972022-02-21T08:00:00-05:002022-10-17T00:53:31-04:00The Stratton Setlist's Interview
Check out The Stratton Setlist's "Personal Empowerment - Aspen Jacobsen Confronts Negative Emotions on 'Shouldn't Give a Damn'" article. (link below) “The first two lines … I wrote after a sleepless weekend," I explained in the interview for the article. "I had constant nightmares that left me scared to fall asleep because of feeling guilty. It was through writing this song that I had let go of the guilt and reminded myself that it’s OK to be ‘selfish’ sometimes and take care of yourself before others. That is healthy, that is self-love. This song is me declaring to myself and the listener that you don’t have an obligation to give a damn for someone with whom you have a toxic relationship.” Thank you Lori Barnard Stratton for this great article!

“I hope this track provides listeners with the same sense of dignity and closure that this song gave and still gives me,” Aspen explains in a recent interview. “I want to send a message to all my listeners – it’s good to make yourself a priority and let go of relationships that give nothing in return.”

Besides releasing a new album this year, I’ll be graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy High School in northern Michigan where I've been living and participating in their Singer-Songwriting Program. "How does it feel when you're only praised, cause no one wants to be the devil's slave." It was inspired by Aspen’s personal struggles with organized religion and faith. This latest single is part of a second recording project with Dominic Davis who not only produced her new songs but also played bass. He is a highly sought out producer and has worked with everyone from Greensky Bluegrass to Willie Nelson. He is best known as the longtime bassist for Jack White. Aspen and Dominic have been working together since meeting several years ago at the Wheatland Music Festival.

This new single was recorded at OmniSound Studios in Nashville with Chief Engineer Rory Rositas. OmniSound Studios has been one of Nashville’s top recording studios for over 35 years. A 15-year-old from Commerce Township, Michigan, Aspen is a singer and multi-instrumentalist whose music is rooted in Americana, Country, and Folk-Pop. “Georgia Boy” is about a personal experience; “It seemed like a cliché encounter between a teen boy and girl which initially made me resistant to writing this song,” explains Aspen. Although it may sound stereotypical, everything in this song is a true account of teenage courtship. In the song Aspen sings: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry, I did the best a stupid girl like me could do."

IMA finalists were culled from thousands of submissions from 73 countries by the Independent Music Awards (IMA).
The winning projects will be selected by influential judging panels including: Tom Waits & Kathleen Brennan, Robert Smith, Ziggy Marley, KT Tunstall, Dee Snider, Drowning Pool, Roberta Flack, Jaci Velasquez, Coolio, Joshua Bell, Beth Gibbons, Joe Satriani and nearly 100 more creatives, top recording artists and industry influencers determining this year’s winners.

Featuring gorgeous verse and lush instrumentation, “Georgia Boy” is from Aspen’s latest album ‘Love Each Other Right.’ Detroit native and Nashville based, Dominic Davis produced the album. Davis is the long-time bassist for Jack White and has worked with many music greats, from Beyoncé to Willie Nelson to Adele. The album was recorded last August at Willis Sound. [Aspen] is "a very mature performer and writer, which is rare at any age", explains Jim Roll, Head Engineer at Willis Sound. It was non-stop performances and workshops. Both nights I was up till 3 am listening or playing in the private showcases. Seeing so many talented musicians, one right after the other, was nothing I've ever experienced before and I loved every moment of it. There were so many musicians I had heard about, but never met and I'm thrilled I was finally able to. Even my workshop choices were terrific - Using Humor Between Songs, Folk Community and Social Responsibility and the Power of Personal Narrative in Performance. Special thanks to the Wheatland and Earthworks private showcases for the opportunity to perform and a huge shout-out to Fauxgrass for allowing me to play Texas with them during their set. Special thanks to FARM's director Annie Capps and the board of directors for providing me with a youth scholarship to attend the conference. I made use of every minute at FARM and left the weekend full of ideas that I can't wait to explore in my music! Can't wait to come back next year!

It was a nationwide talent search and I was one of 26 contestants from the Detroit area (the show had more than 500 auditions submitted just from Detroit!). Contestants were invited to join Ethan Bortnik on stage to sing "We are the World" at his concert at Music Hall in Detroit. Congratulations to my talented friends, Delaney Natke who won the popular vote and Mia Green who won the producer's choice award.

Aspen Jacobsentag:aspenjacobsen.com,2005:Post/51738132018-04-10T09:13:09-04:002018-04-10T09:21:53-04:00Aspen Featured in PBS Celebration of Music - Detroit
I'm super psyched to announce that I've be chosen to be a contestant on a PBS television show called Celebration of Music starring Ethan Bortnick. It's a nationwide talent search and I will be appearing on Detroit Public Television. The first airing will be at 8pm on PBTV Channel 56 April 13th. That is also when voting will begin.

Don't forget to vote for me starting this Friday night at https://celebrationofmusic.com/aspen-jacobsen (only one vote per email address). Voting will continue till May 5th when the winner will be announced at Ethan Bortnick's Celebration of Music Concert at the Detroit Music Hall. There I and the other contestant's videos will be played before Ethan's show and during breaks. Both the online votes and votes from the concert will be tallied during intermission. The winner will be announced during the show and will be performing LIVE onstage at the Detroit concert in front of thousands!

They had more than 500 submissions, and only about 25 contestants were chosen for the show. We had to submit a music video which I shot at 20 Front Street in Lake Orion and an interview video segment at home. I haven't even seen what the final video looks like, so I am really excited to see the show on Friday April 13th.

The contestant with the most votes wins, so please vote for me at https://celebrationofmusic.com/aspen-jacobsen between April 13th and May 5th 2018!
Aspen Jacobsen
